General English courses

IELTS

This course is for students who need to take IELTS at some point, usually to get a place at university.

You will study either 6, 16 or 22 hours a week, following the same timetable as the General English courses. You might combine an IELTS focus with a focus on General English, by choosing to study General English in the morning, and IELTS in the afternoon, or the opposite.

You will improve your ability to achieve a good band in IELTS by developing your listening, reading, writing and speaking skills. You will learn how to use more vocabulary and grammar accurately to answer specific questions. You will learn about the format of the exam and receive lots of tips and advice on what the examiners want to see and hear. You will develop better study skills and learn how to remember different language better. You will see real examples of IELTS questions and learn how to prepare for them. Some of you may focus on improving your general English to a suitable level before focusing on academic IELTS texts.

We will also help you book an IELTS exam when you want.

Our teachers will use different types of activities and teaching techniques and materials to help you with your exam preparation.

The Course fees include:

  • Placement test with speaking test
  • A course book (please see notes on materials)
  • Additional classroom materials, if relevant
  • Internet access
  • Drinking water
  • Grammar doctor appointments, if requested
  • Regular feedback on progress
  • An end of course certificate with personalised learning details
  • Help and advice with further studies
