Sally
Hi! Some of you will remember me formally as a Director of a Language School here in Cardiff, a position I held for nearly 7 years. I am Capital School’s Student Welfare Manager and also organize the accommodation for the students who want homestay accommodation. Something very important to a successful language school is your wellbeing and making sure that you feel safe and happy both in the school and outside, and that’s what I’m here for.
It is very important to me personally that students feel comfortable enough to approach me for anything 24/7, so I am always contactable! I have a quite unique approach with students and people who know me will strongly agree and may also laugh at this. I have always taken my position very seriously and will continue to do so at Capital.
James
As one of the Directors at CAPITAL, I am here to ensure the smooth-running of the school. Having spent six years managing another English Language School in Cardiff, I know how to provide a positive service to overseas students. Over the years I have met some great friends from around the world and have learnt from their cultures.
Cardiff is a great place to study, live and work! It is a city to feel at home in immediately and visitors have such a good experience here that they always want to come back. It is one of my priorities to make sure that every student leaves with a piece of the city in their hearts. As I was born and raised in Cardiff, I have a very good knowledge of the city and its history so feel free to ask me any questions.
Outside the school, my spare time is almost entirely taken up by my two young daughters and playing football.
Niamh
I’m Niamh and I am an English language teacher at Capital School of English. I’ve been teaching English for about seven years to adults, teenagers and children. I started teaching in Dublin, my hometown, before moving to the south of Spain for three years and, after returning to Dublin where I completed my graduate diploma, I moved to Cardiff, which is going great so far. I’m really enjoying my time here as there are so many things to do in Cardiff.
As an English language teacher, I strive to encourage my students to do their best in class and build their confidence while learning English. I feel a classroom should be a friendly environment where students feel comfortable while learning. I love working with students from all around the world and learning about new cultures. Outside the school, I like spending time outdoors with friends and family, going to the gym and trying out new restaurants.
Robyn
I’m Robyn and I am an English language teacher at Capital School of English. I taught for seven years at a university in the south of China before returning to my hometown of Bristol and working in Cardiff. Before returning, I finished my MSc in Forensic Linguistics and, when I wasn’t teaching or studying, I explored some of the surrounding countries. I am now enjoying my time back in the UK, where I am discovering what Cardiff has to offer.
My aim, as an English language teacher, is to build confidence within my students and work with them to reach their individual language goals. Observing students’ growth and helping them through the highs and lows of learning another language is hugely fulfilling and gratifying. I consider myself fortunate to be in a position that allows me to interact with people from such diverse backgrounds. Outside the school, I like going to the gym, dancing, painting, riding horses and my motorbike.
Rosie
I’m Rosie and I’m a teacher at Capital School. I’ve been in Cardiff for two years now and am happy making it my home. It’s a great city – I love discovering new places, acting as a tour guide and finding exciting places to eat and drink! (So please feel free to ask for recommendations!)
When I’m not exploring the city, I like to relax by knitting whilst watching a good series on TV. Before coming to Capital, I taught English abroad in both Italy and Spain which were both great experiences. What do I like best about teaching English? Definitely it’s the students! Each student brings something unique to the class – different needs, specific goals, ambitions, and diverse interests. It’s my job to ensure that each student feels welcomed, encouraged and challenged, and hopefully have some fun whilst learning too!
Rachel
I’m Rachel and I’m a teacher at Capital School. I also work closely with agents and with students before they arrive and after they have gone. My background in teaching and academic support for students with special educational needs means I have a student-centred approach to learning and teaching. After several years teaching English in the South West of England, I joined Capital School because of its warm atmosphere and the welcoming staff and students. In my free time I enjoy reading, creative writing, and the outdoors; I will happily go wild
swimming at any time in the year!
Ben
My name’s Ben and I teach English at Capital School. I started teaching English nearly ten years ago and have recently moved back to the UK to continue my career. Most of my teaching has been in Spain where I specialised in all the Cambridge exams but taught learners of all ages and levels. I also worked as a speaking examiner for Cambridge Exams. I started as an EFL teacher because teaching has been a passion of mine since an early age. I enjoy making my classes enjoyable, yet educational, and I think it is fundamental to any of my classes that students leave knowing that they’ve learned something new and useful and which they can implement in their day to day life. Outside of work I enjoy travelling to places I’ve never been to and streaming on Twitch.
Scott
I’m Scott and I’ve been teaching English for about eighteen years. During that time, I’ve taught in Italy, Saudi Arabia, Germany and the Ukraine. One of my best teaching experiences was in Saudi Arabia, because I’d wanted to go there since I was a teenager and life there is so different to what we are used to in the UK.
I’ve been teaching in Cardiff for over ten years, and during that time I’m proud to say I’ve helped countless students from myriad countries get closer to achieving their language goals, especially in IELTS and the Cambridge exams. One of my favourite parts of the job is meeting so many people of different ages and life experiences and getting to know them a little. There are so few professions where you can encounter so many different cultures without needing to travel!
I had a previous life as a violin and viola teacher and still love to listen to music. I also read a lot, enjoy spending time outdoors, travelling around the country and visiting friends.
David
I’m David and I am an English teacher at Capital School. I’ve got almost 10 years’ experience teaching EFL. I taught English for over 9 years in Spain, and now back home in Cardiff. During my time in Spain, I taught many different types of ESL classes in very diverse settings. I also worked as an examiner for Cambridge exams which allowed me a great insight into passing official exams and I’m hopeful that I can pass this knowledge on to my students. I love being back home and it’s been my favourite place to teach so far. I encourage my students to think critically, be autonomous, and be creative. I especially enjoy creating student-centred lessons and devising creative activities for my students to enjoy. When I am not teaching you will find me walking in the beautiful Welsh countryside with my dog or taking photos which has been a passion of mine for many years.
Rusnė
Hi! I’m Rusnė and I work in reception at Capital School of English. The nature of my job includes handling student enquiries, bookings and other administrative tasks. However, my favourite part of the job is making sure our students feel welcome and happy in our school as well as helping them with any matters (big or small) related to their stay in Wales.
I have a Lithuanian background and have been living in the UK since September 2018. I finished my degree in the field of Linguistics back home. During my years as a student I was exploring my opportunities abroad and was curious about places that were obscure and not at the top of a backpacker’s list. I initially came to Wales for just a few months but then I fell in love with Cardiff and its friendly and cheerful local people, so I decided to extend my stay. For me, this school offers the perfect environment to discover and gain insight into the different cultures of our students.
Outside of school, I enjoy fitness, exploring the nature of Wales and England, taking part in social clubs and activities, chess, crocheting and sketching ideas for interior design.
